Privacy Policy
Goliath Guitar Tutorials is run by Gareth Evans. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the site, create an account, watch lessons, send feedback, connect Patreon or buy a membership.
This page is written in plain English for customers. It is not a substitute for legal advice, but it reflects how this site is intended to operate.
Information we collect
When you create or use an account, we may collect your email address, display name, sign-in provider, email verification status, marketing preferences, account settings, membership/access status and timestamps such as account creation or update dates.
If you send feedback, we store the message, the page or lesson context, your account ID/email, the time submitted, and hashed technical details such as IP address and user agent. Hashing means we use these details for abuse/debugging checks without storing the raw value in the feedback record.
If you connect Patreon, we store the Patreon account information needed to verify access, such as membership status, mapped access level, tier titles, pledge amount where available, next charge date, and the last time the connection was checked.
If you buy a Goliath membership, payment details are handled by Stripe. We store the Stripe customer/subscription identifiers and subscription status needed to keep your access working. We do not store full card numbers on this site.
How we use the information
We use account and access information to let you sign in, watch free videos, unlock Premium videos, tabs and courses where you have access, manage membership status, connect Patreon, respond to feedback, protect the service and improve the site.
Marketing preferences are used to decide whether we can send Goliath updates, lesson updates, product updates or Premium offers. You can change these preferences in your account area.
Analytics
The site uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand site traffic, page usage and referrers. Vercel Web Analytics is designed to be privacy-friendly and does not rely on tracking cookies for normal page analytics.
The site also records first-party usage events so the site can be operated and improved. These may include pages viewed, lesson pages opened, locked video messages shown, Membership page views, upgrade clicks, checkout starts, billing-portal opens, video-play requests, library searches and tab/resource-link clicks.
When you are signed in, these events may be linked to your account ID/email so we can understand support issues, browsing journeys and upgrade funnels. When you are not signed in, events may be linked to an anonymous browser session ID. Admin/owner accounts are excluded from this first-party journey tracking.
Service providers
The site uses trusted service providers to run core features, including Firebase for authentication/account storage, Vercel for hosting and analytics, Stripe for payments, Mux and YouTube for video playback, and Patreon for Patreon account linking.
These providers may process data according to their own terms and privacy policies when their services are used.
Cookies and browser storage
The site uses cookies and browser storage for essential features such as sign-in, account sessions, Patreon connection security, membership checks, video playback and remembering small preferences like selected billing currency. See the Cookie Policy for more detail.
How long we keep information
Account records are kept while your account exists. Feedback, access logs and membership records may be kept for operational, support, accounting, security and legal reasons. First-party usage events may be kept while they are useful for site improvement and funnel analysis, with older raw events eligible for deletion or aggregation later. You can ask for your account to be deleted from Account & Security.
Your choices
You can update your profile, email preferences and account settings from the account area. You can disconnect Patreon from the membership/account area. You can cancel or manage Stripe billing through the billing portal where available.
You can request help with privacy, account or data questions by using the site feedback/contact route or by contacting Gareth through the published Goliath Guitar Tutorials channels.
