About Gareth

Ten years. 770,000 subscribers. Still just one guy with a guitar.

Gareth Evans playing acoustic guitar

Gareth Evans grew up in Denbigh, Wales. He picked up a guitar at 13, taught himself to play, and spent the next decade working a factory job while quietly getting very good at fingerstyle guitar.

In 2009 he started a YouTube channel — not because he had a plan, but because accurate fingerstyle tutorials were almost impossible to find online. He figured if he could learn a song properly, he'd film it and share it.

It worked. Over ten years later, he has 770,000 subscribers and tens of millions of views. He left the factory in 2013 and hasn't looked back.

What Gareth teaches isn't strumming patterns and basic chords. It's fingerpicking — the kind where one guitar carries the whole song. Melody, bass, rhythm, all at once. It's harder to learn, but it's also far more satisfying to play.

Most of the lessons are free. There's a premium library for players who want to go deeper. That's the whole model.
